4 – 31 March 2021
The call for Black Hole Club 2021 has opened!
Black Hole Club is opening up a small number of places for individuals or groups from the East and West Midlands to join our existing cohort. We are taking our activities forward as a free to access artist development programme and are looking for people who want to invest in making a scene together with us through from April to Dec 2021.
We are offering a focused developmental space for practice that operates on the basis of mutual aid – a free and supportive space for practices and conversations. We create opportunities to make your practice public; in the past two years we have supported our cohort to present work at Manchester Contemporary & Birmingham Weekender in 2019 and with Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and the Artists Newsletter’s 40th anniversary celebrations in 2020. Cohort research can be accessed here.
We recognise that this year working with Black Hole Club takes place in a time of uncertainty. We understand how important access to space is, and this year we will work both online (via zoom and other platforms) and at Vivid Projects at Minerva Works in Digbeth as conditions permit. Following the roadmap of opening dates for the sector, we are planning for onsite activities from Spring.
Who are we looking for?
Black Hole Club is an initiative for artists to develop work together in the context of Vivid Projects. The group works through collaborative projects invested in media arts (film/video, sound, digital/web art), performance, publication and social practice facilitated by producer Cathy Wade. We are keen to hear from people who have skills to contribute and wish to focus collectively; who are ready to have an ongoing conversation with an organisation about their work.
We would like to hear about what you would add into the mix; and will consider applications from people across the interdisciplinary and media arts. Applications are open to those who are emergent or established in their work as an artist. Our cohort reflects the region that we live and work in; we welcome applications from artists who identify as part of groups underrepresented in the creative and cultural fields and those not in full time education who are committed to a lifelong career in the arts.
Make your case for joining the cohort by emailing email@example.com by 12pm on the 31st March 2021 with the following:
A statement of 200-250 words that can be submitted as a written document, or by spoken word as a 3-4 minute video or sound file, supported by up to five examples of your work and links to social media and your website (if you have one).
